Job Purpose

The Business Development Manager is responsible for securing new revenue within the company’s existing portfolio of clients as well as seeking out new clients. The role is expected to have a focus on hunting new businesses. The role ensures an excellent client experience at all times and works to ensure a smooth transition of accounts into the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of viable and profitable programs that broadly engage the company’ clients;
  • Develop new business relationships.
  • Achieve sales targets by developing new business with existing and potential clients.
  • Schedule and attend client meetings, ensuring that number of meetings meet targets
  • Prepare proposals and detailed costings and prepare contract documents for review
  • Present effective and professional presentations on company products and services.
  • Co-ordinate marketing activities and relationship strategies for all industry sectors with whom the company has agreements, networks, and partnerships;
  • Lead in tender proceedings; negotiate pricing and service level agreements
  • Engage and consult with the business community to identify opportunities for the company to meet client needs;
  • Proactively promote and market the company and all services, activities, and initiatives;
  • Actively monitor market trends through personal contact with clients and industry-associated meetings/events and seminars.
  • Promote the development of media stories positively promoting the company;
  • Ensure the delivery of customer service to the highest of standards and in accordance with the company values;
  • Prepare regular reports to aid decision making
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned

Qualification & Requirements

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Operations, Management or equivalent qualifications. MBA is a plus

Industry Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in business development, sales or related experience and knowledge of the logistics business in oil and gas, mining, FMCG etc,

Technical Skills:

  • Experience in a fast-paced sales environment; consistent track record of success in achieving and exceeding sales targets; proven ability in targeting new business opportunities; a confident negotiator with proven ability to close the deal; a positive and determined approach to researching and analyzing new business opportunities

Personal Qualities:

  • Ability to generate ideas and solutions; self-motivated and results-driven; excellent relationship management skills; team player; innovative; excellent organizational and time management skills; attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.  Proactively determined business hunter.

Technology skills:

  • Good Microsoft office suite competence, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
