JOB BRIEF

Our client in the manufacturing sector located in Tema, specializing in Power Transformers and other high-value goods associated with electricity production, including power systems and electrical power distribution equipment is seeking to recruit a Maintenance Engineer who will primarily be responsible for the design and execution of maintenance activities in the assembly plant to ensure equipment and facilities function reliably and efficiently.

The role holder will be responsible for the development and implementation of maintenance strategies. The desired maintenance strategies include preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance, to minimize downtime, reduce costs, and maximize productivity.

Specific Responsibilities.

  1. Inspect facilities periodically to determine problems and necessary maintenance.
  2. Prepare maintenance schedules (daily, weekly, monthly, etc) in line with the organization’s maintenance goals, generate work orders, provide comprehensive job details, and allocate work effectively.
  3. Ensure routine maintenance on assembly tools and equipment is performed for optimal functionality and safety.
  4. Oversee and ensure good record-keeping practices.
  5. Work closely with vendors, outsourced service providers, and contractors to protect the interests of the facility.
  6. Supervise and train maintenance technicians.
  7. Inspect and maintain building systems (air conditions, lighting, and other electrical and mechanical fixtures.)
  8. Contribute to the development of the maintenance budget and ensure compliance.
  9. Monitor inventory of materials and equipment.
  10. Participate in new projects, where relevant (e.g. renovations, installation of new equipment).
  11. Ensure adherence to quality standards and health and safety regulations to minimize risks associated with electrical work and heavy machinery operation.
  12. Collaborate with engineers, line managers/supervisors, and other team members on design modifications, assembly issues, and project progress.
  13. Adhere to environmental regulations and best practices, especially related to waste disposal and recycling of materials used in transformer assembly.
  14. Work efficiently to meet deadlines, and coordinate tasks to ensure the timely completion of transformer.

Job Requirement.

  1. Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Preferred Electrical/ Mechanical), or a related field.
  2. Must have a minimum of 5 years of working experience in a related field.
  3. Proven experience as a maintenance supervisor or similar role.
  4. Hands-on experience in assembling transformer components, including core, windings, insulation, and tank.
  5. Skill in conducting routine tests on transformers, such as insulation resistance, turns ratio, and dielectric strength tests.
  6. Adherence to safety protocols and regulations related to electrical work and heavy machinery operation.
  7. Basic knowledge of the operation of a fire extinguisher and knowledge of personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  8. Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and lifting equipment safely and effectively.
  9. Understanding of HVAC principles, especially those related to transformer cooling systems.
  10. Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
