Preamble

Solidaridad Network has received funding from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Kingdom Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office to implement the second phase of the National Initiatives for Sustainable Climate Smart Oil Palm Smallholders programme (NI-SCOPS) in West Africa (Ghana and Nigeria), Asia (Indonesia and Malaysia) Latin America (Columbia) and Europe over a five-year period.

In Ghana, the second phase of NI-SCOPS aims to promote the sustainable management of oil palm landscapes and ensure that smallholders benefit from their inclusion in oil palm markets. This will be achieved by working with farmers, processors, private sector companies, local and national governments to ensure that:

  • Oil palm landscapes are well governed, and forests are protected/restored.
  • Smallholders have improved incomes.
  • Key producer and consumer countries establish policies and practises that are D-free and SH inclusive.

Job Purpose

The programme officers are responsible for ensuring Solidaridad achieves its objectives under the second phase of the NI-SCOPS program through the provision of technical assistance and support to project beneficiaries. The role operates in the field to implement activities leading to the protection of forests, restoration/reclamation in oil palm landscapes and improved incomes for smallholders.

Major Responsibilities

Programme Coordination & Management

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and documentation of meetings, workshops, seminars and other activities of the programme.
  • Support the development of Sustainable Management Plans.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders within oil palm landscapes to execute Sustainable Management Plans.
  • Support training of beneficiaries on group strengthening, the VSLA scheme and additional livelihoods.
  • Organize and maintain the project/programme documentation, filing system and project/programme library.
  • Support the preparation of annual work plans for NI-SCOPS.
  • Support the implementation of other oil palm projects

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track program activities and regularly prepare updates on progress.
  • Document and report the results of each activity undertaken.
  • Assist in the recording and documenting lessons learned during implementation.
  • Support in the preparation of technical and financial reports based on Solidaridad’s specific planning, implementation and reporting procedures.

Communication

  • Assist in providing timely and relevant program implementation updates to corporate communication officers for the purpose of internal and external communication.

Programme Manager

  • Support the organisation of content for the development of communication materials to enhance program visibility.
  • Support the development of knowledge products based on lessons from the implementation of project activities.

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:

Minimum Qualification required

  • A University degree in Agricultural Science, Engineering, Development Management or a relevant subject

Experience

  • At least 3-5 years of experience in a similar role

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Experience working in the oil palm commodity chain.
  • Experience in working with policy makers, farmers, processors and consultants
  • Experience in facilitating community development activities.
  • Computer literacy (Google suite, etc).
  • Good presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Capable of working in a dynamic, intercultural, multi-stakeholder setting.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, with the ability to produce professional reports in English

Specific Requirements

  • Culturally sensitive.
  • Willingness to travel to the operational areas.
  • Ability to build consensus and work effectively within an international cross-departmental team
